What Can Users Do?

Users can ask their AI assistant to help them find home service professionals, just like they would search on Thumbtack.com. For example:

"Find a plumber near me"
"I need someone to clean my house in San Francisco"
"Can you find a licensed electrician in ZIP 90210?"
"What are popular home services in my area?"

The AI assistant handles the rest — searching for matching professionals, presenting results, asking follow-up questions to refine the search, and showing reviews.

What the User Sees

Professional listings: Business name, rating, number of reviews, pricing, years in business, whether they are a Top Pro, and a link to their Thumbtack profile. The assistant's summary covers the first 3 professionals. In hosts that support MCP Apps, they also appear in an interactive pro list (see Pro List Widget Resource).
Clarifying questions: After the initial search, the assistant asks the first two clarifying questions from the request form to help narrow down results (e.g., "How many rooms?", "What is your timeline?").
Reviews: When requested, the assistant shows a summary and individual reviews with ratings, dates, and reviewer names.
Profile links: Each professional's listing includes a link to their full Thumbtack profile page where users can view more details, photos, and book directly.

How Booking Works

For the Search Pros Toolset, the Thumbtack MCP Server helps users discover and compare professionals. To book a pro, users click on the professional's Thumbtack profile link, which takes them to Thumbtack.com where they can send a message, request a quote, or hire the pro directly.

For the Preset Job Toolset, the Thumbtack MCP Server helps users book and pay for a preset job, which has a fixed price. To book a pro, users describe what they need and answer questions to determine the job details. The agent uses the MCP tools to find availability, price the job, handle payment, then book the job.
