Let AI assistants search for pros, read reviews, and book preset jobs on Thumbtack through the Model Context Protocol (MCP).
Thumbtack is the leading online marketplace that connects homeowners with local service professionals across the United States. Thumbtack enables customers to find, compare, and hire trusted professionals for hundreds of home service categories — from house cleaning and plumbing to electrical work, landscaping, and more.
The Thumbtack MCP Server is Thumbtack's implementation of the Model Context Protocol (MCP) — an open standard that enables AI assistants to interact with external tools and data sources in a structured way. It allows AI agents to help users discover, compare, and book home service professionals on Thumbtack.
Each partner uses one toolset, which Thumbtack configures for your OAuth client during onboarding. The server identifies the partner from the access token and returns that toolset's tools from tools/list. To switch toolsets later, contact Thumbtack.
- Search for pros: Find home service professionals by describing the job needed and providing a US ZIP code.
- Refine results: Filter pro lists by answering category-specific clarifying questions (e.g., "How many rooms?", "What type of flooring?").
- Browse reviews: Retrieve and display customer reviews for specific professionals, sortable by relevance, rating, or date.
- Discover categories: Get popular or trending home service category recommendations for a given ZIP code.
- Rich UI widget: Display an interactive pro list in hosts that support MCP Apps.

To use this toolset, ask Thumbtack to enable it for your integration. Thumbtack switches your OAuth client to the Preset Job Toolset and sets up the service categories you can book. Each partner has one toolset, so enabling Preset Job replaces the Search Pros tools for that client.
- Book preset jobs: Discover service categories that can be booked instantly at fixed prices.
- Check local availability: Verify if enough eligible service professionals are available in a specific ZIP code for a given job category.
- Dynamic request forms & pricing: Fetch custom job request forms and dynamically update job pricing based on customer answers and selected appointment times.
- Real-time appointment scheduling: Browse available dates, exact start times, or arrival windows in the local time zone, and book the job.
- Integrated payment & order management: Generate Stripe payment terms, process secure bookings, and check live order and payment status.

Thumbtack operates exclusively within the United States of America. All tools are designed for US-based home service requests only. If a user asks about services outside the US, the AI assistant will inform them that Thumbtack is not available in their area.
